How to clean your Silk & Steel jewellery

This is a great cleaning tip for sterling silver, or gold plated sterling silver, jewellery and also safe for gemstones. It's super quick and effective by electrolytic action - which sounds complicated but it's simply a chemical reaction between the silver, aluminium and the sulfur which removes the tarnish from oxidized silver.

You will need:

  • A shallow bowl
  • Aluminum foil
  • Baking soda 
  • Dishwashing liquid 
  • Hot water 
  • A soft cloth 
How to clean your Silk & Steel Jewellery

Four simple steps:

Step 1: Line your bowl with the foil and add a tablespoon of baking soda. 

The Process:  Firstly, line your bowl with the foil and add a heaped tablespoon of baking soda.

Step 2: Add a small amount of dishwashing liquid and then place the jewellery you would like to clean inside. It is important that all of jewellery is touching the foil. 

Add a small amount of dishwashing liquid and then place your tarnished/ dirty jewellery in; ensuring all of the pieces are touching the foil.
Step 3: Pour boiling/ hot water to cover the jewellery. This should then start to fizz which means the chemical reaction is taking place. Leave for approximately 10mins.
Finally, cover your jewellery with boiling/ hot water. This concoction should fizz and start to dissolve... This means the chemical reaction is taking place. Leave for 5-10mins
Step 4: Carefully remove your jewellery and then rinse & then dry. 
Dry your jewellery with a soft dry cloth
FINISHED: Your jewellery should now be bright and clean!
Your jewellery should now be sparking clean
